An “extremely fearful” bikie allegedly caught with 120 grams of methamphetamine “may have been carrying the can” for others, a court has heard.

Brayden Mark Hunter, 25, appeared in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Monday via video link charged with selling a controlled drug.

Police allege the Nomads member was found with approximately 120 grams of methamphetamine, $5000 in cash and a taser at a Bolivar address on December 11.

“I just want to be home with my family,” Hunter told the court as Magistrate Ben Sale delayed a decision on a bail application until Friday.

For Hunter, Ben Chehade said “it appears he may have been associated with the drug scene” and his client was “extremely fearful” about being in jail.

“It’s a powerful motivator to comply with any terms you propose,” Mr Chehade said.

“(There are) real fears with what he might suffer in custody.

“He’s certainly in a difficult position.”

Mr Chehade also said his client was diabetic, which had been “difficult to manage” in custody, and his situation was “consistent with a young man with substance abuse” problems.

“He’s desperate to be with his family,” he said.

“There are difficulties managing his diabetes.”

The court heard police found drugs “packaged” up, which Hunter admitted belonged to him.

A family member of Hunter sobbed in the gallery as Magistrate Ben Sale said the circumstances showed a “pretty good case for trafficking” but others might be involved.

“I’m conscious there might be other forces at work and Mr Hunter has been left carrying the can,” Mr Sale said.

“My concern is that you’ve got a young person who seems to be in possession of a large quantity of drugs.

“A large-ish amount of cash. There could be other things going on in the background.”

He also had his doubts the “thousands of dollars-worth of drugs” were for just personal use.

“He must have a very large income to feed that habit,” he said.

“The fact he was in a cabin at this tourist park might speak against that.”

Mr Sale said the accused had a “heightened risk of absconding” if granted bail.

“This young man is facing at best a term of imprisonment of four to seven years,” he said.

Adjourning the matter to December 18, Mr Sale said he was “keeping an open mind”.

“I want a bit more information. I’m hoping the picture will be a bit more clearer on Friday,” he said.
