An Adelaide DJ who allegedly stabbed his mother’s partner during a drug detox at home will contest the charge, which have now been classed as domestic violence charge.

Ben Maksimovic, known as producer and DJ Ben Mak, 28, appeared in Adelaide Magistrates Court supported by his mother on Monday to hear if prosecutors had finalised charges against him.

Prosecution had told Chief Magistrate Mary-Louise Hribal they had updated the court with the new charge, but needed time to gather evidence before he entered his plea.

“We are still awaiting an affidavit from his mother, and estimated date for a toxicology report and DNA,” prosecutors said.

“We are also waiting for the triple-0 phone call and transcript.”

The Ridgehaven man is yet to enter pleas to attempted cause serious harm with intent against own child or spouse.

During Mr Maksimovic’s bail application, the court heard he had sought help from his mother and her partner for his “escalating” drug addiction days before he allegedly stabbed his mother’s partner.

The court heard the 23-year-old had been taken to his mother’s partner’s Tea Tree Gully home a few days prior to the alleged stabbing, which left a 53-year-old man with four stab wounds to his neck and head.

Police prosecution originally alleged that on that Monday evening Mr Maksimovic had been acting “strange” and “paranoid” and while making dinner, the victim went to his fridge to collect an item.

They alleged Mr Maksimovic then picked up a knife and lunged at him, inflicting multiple wounds to the man in the presence of his mother.

Mr Maksimovic was remanded on continuing bail to return to court in October.
