Amy Hedges and Mark Andreoni charged with drug trafficking and money laundering

A woman’s only involvement in the serious drug crimes she’s charged with was “lying on the couch asleep” when police raided the home, a court has heard.

Australia's growing drug crisis

A woman has experienced her first taste of custody, after a police raid allegedly discovered drugs, cash and gel blasters in a northern suburbs house.
Amy Louise Hedges, 33, is charged alongside her co-accused, Mark Scott Andreoni, 36, with serious drug offences.

Tim Clarke, for Ms Hedges, told the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Friday, Ms Hedges was lying on the couch when police raided Mr Andreoni’s Fairview Park home on March 2.

The court heard drugs and money were allegedly found in a tin in Mr Andreoni’s bedroom, as well as gel blasters.

“One (gel blaster) was taped or hidden behind the bed in the co-accused’s bedroom and I think the other one was in that bedroom as well somewhere,” Mr Clarke said.

Mr Clarke said there was also some other drug related items found in the lounge room, including ice pipes.

“The door was opened by my client’s co-accused’s mother … she seems to have as much criminal liability as my client, given that my client’s only involvement appears to be lying on the couch asleep in the lounge room,” he said.

“This is her first time in custody.”

Ms Hedges, of Elizabeth Grove, and Mr Andreoni, of Fairview Park, are charged with multiple offences, including drug trafficking and money laundering.

Mr Andreoni remains in custody after being refused bail.

A prosecutor said they were not opposed to home detention bail, as long as there was a condition Ms Hedges couldn’t talk to her co-accused.

Magistrate Simon Smart released Ms Hedges on home detention bail, warning her that it was a very strict form of bail.

“If you do leave without permission, it sets off an alarm and you get arrested and back where you are,” he said.

“You also need not to use illicit substances … if you test positive then you’ll breach bail and back where you are.”

The charges were adjourned until August.
