Alleged Parafield Gardens drunk driver filmed on dashcam at Paralowie

Witnesses were forced to make a citizen’s arrest after dashcam footage showed an alleged drunk driver swerving across the road before cannoning into a fence.

Startling dashcam footage has emerged from the northern suburbs allegedly showing a drink driver swerving across the road, mounting a roundabout and crashing into a fence.

The alleged incident unfolded on Sunday evening off Fairbanks Drive at Paralowie, just metres from a local park and childcare centre.

A witness to the crash, who has not been named, told The Messenger he and another citizen intervened to remove the driver from the car.

“I opened the passenger door and said, ‘you’re not going anywhere’ and (the other citizen) snapped the key in the ignition,” he said.

“The driver got out and just fell on the floor.”

The dashcam footage showed the ute indicate left at a Fairbanks Drive roundabout before clipping the footpath, mounting a road island and doing a 180 before sliding into a fence and light pole.

An SA Police spokesman confirmed a 39-year-old Parafield Gardens man was arrested at the scene.

“Police spoke to the driver who allegedly refused to provide his details,” he said.

“The 39-year-old from Parafield Gardens was arrested and charged with fail to provide personal details, due care, drive disqualified, fail to submit to a breath test and drive under the influence.

“The utility was towed from the scene and the driver was issued with an immediate 12-month loss of licence on top off his disqualification period.”

The man was bailed to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court in August.
