A DJ and event promoter who ran events for teenagers repeatedly sent explicit images and messages to underage girls to solicit them for sex, a court has heard.

Nicholas Emmanuel Athans, 25, of Ridleyton, faced trial in the District Court on Monday after pleading not guilty to four charges of procuring a child to engage in or submit to sexual activity.

Opening the trial, prosecutor Ryan Williams said Athans committed the offences from early 2016 to mid-2017.

He said the DJ allegedly used the Facebook page for his business, Yeah Hard Entertainment, to find four girls whom he would then message privately.

Mr Williams alleged Athans gave a girl his mobile number after she contacted him via his personal Facebook page.

He allegedly told the girl via Apple’s messaging service, i-Message, that he was “bored”, “wanting to hang”, and that she should “come over, I’ll make it worth your while”.

Mr Williams said Athans provided a Snapchat username to the girl and later used the photo-based app – where images are erased after a short period of time – to send her photos of his genital area.

He said the other girls similarly first spoke to Mr Athans through Facebook.

Athans allegedly offered two of the girls tickets to one of his events if they “sent him something”.

The trial, before Judge Sophie David, continues.
