CFS engages new tech during Belair fire

A stretch of Riddoch Highway – the busy highway in the state’s South-East connecting Keith and Mount Gambier – is reopened as firefighters work to extinguish a grassfire at Willalooka.

The fire was burning on Cannawigara Road and Chain Pump Road near Keith in the upper South-East.

CFS volunteers on four trucks, supported by farm fire units, were on scene. The threat from the fire has now reduced.

The operations were supported by the SES and SAPOL, which has now reopened the Riddoch Highway from Chain Pump Road to the north, and Cannawigara Road to the south of the fire at Willalooka.

Crews remain on scene to finish mopping up and blacking out the fire, which was kept to one hectare. Speed restrictions are still in place.

If you are travelling on the roads in the area, please take care and drive to the local conditions.
