When Josslyn Jenkins and Lucy Von Stanke met as young apprentice chefs they discovered a shared goal of opening a cafe.

Beginning as a tiny takeaway shop Presto Eatery now spans four shopfronts in Mount Gambier’s main street with a team of 26 and has been crowned the Limestone Coast’s best brunch spot in our latest Delicious Local poll.

“We both had this big dream to one day have a cafe,” Mrs Jenkins said.

“That gained a little bit of momentum with the food that we were doing there, but the dream was to be able to put food on plates.

“It’s been a crazy ride so far going from start to where we are now but we’re so happy and have the most amazing team.”

It’s not the first time Presto’s menu has earned acclaim having previously been named South Australia’s best regional breakfast two years running.

“It means a lot, especially to our team,” Mrs Jenkin said.

“They’re the people who put in all the hard yards and everyone that works for us cares about the business, they care about customers.

“This year, out of every year was probably meant the most to us having our regulars walk through the door, when times were getting tough people coming in and buying gift vouchers to make sure we reopened because we just didn’t know what was going to happen.

“But not only that the support we get from tourists that come down, they’re always surprised to find a cafe in a regional town serving up this style of food.”

The pair have designed the menu around what they want to eat and drink with a focus on healthy fare, bake goods and keeping ahead of the trends with a creative twist.

“Brunch has become the new lunch,” Mrs Jenkin said.

“It’s just the kind of food that you can eat all day and now people are having cocktails with their brunch too which is good on the weekend.

“It’s five o’clock somewhere.”
