Popular Mount Gambier medical clinic expanding to second location

A Mount Gambier medical centre will open a second location and employee two new GPs under new plans – here’s where it’s opening.

A popular medical clinic in Mount Gambier has announced it will expand with a second practice soon to be opened near the city centre.

Village Medical Centre, located at 3 Buronga Ave just off the Riddoch Highway, announced last week it would expand to include a new medical practice on Helen Street Mount Gambier.

Dr Moheb Gayed and Dr Mina Nakhjavani, who have both been working with Village Medical Centre for a while now, will be based at the new Helen Street practice, as well as some familiar faces from the existing centre’s nursing and reception teams.

The centre recently recruited two new GPs for their original Buronga Ave location, Dr Keroles Mencaryous and Dr Elham Sabouri.

A spokesperson said the plan to expand had going on behind the scenes for sometime.

“Being able to provide continuity of care for our patients and being able to accommodate accepting new patients into our practice while our region has experienced rapid population growth has been a major driving force (behind the expansion),” the spokesperson said.

“It can sometimes be hard to recruit and retain GPs in regional areas, but we have been quite fortunate to maintain and grow our team of GPs which enables us to continue to facilitate the level of patient care we strive for.

“As a practice we are very excited to see progression for the clinic, it is satisfying to see plans and ideas coming to fruition.

“We have a fantastic team, and everyone works really hard – adding an additional site gives us the ability and space to recruit more GPs in the future, which is imperative to be able to continue the work we do for the community.”

The spokesperson said the clinic was “always planning behind the scenes, upskilling, and researching ways to improve the clinic”.

“We have a few options which we are currently considering with regards to the next stages for Village Medical,” the spokesperson said.

“We won’t give too much away just yet – but there is definitely continued growth on the horizon.”

The opening date of the new clinic is yet to be confirmed, but the clinic said it was “not too far away” and any patients whose appointments may change would receive advance notice.

Both locations are accepting new patients.
