Multiple drug and drink drivers caught across Limestone Coast

Nine people have been busted driving drunk or on drugs in one week – seven on meth and one nearly times the limit.

Seven people have been caught driving while on meth in one week across the Limestone Coast, with two other drivers drunk or high.

The first was on Monday, July 15, when a 31-year-old Mount Gambier man was stopped by police about 2pm on Wehl Street North in Mount Gambier and allegedly returned a positive reading for meth. He lost his licence for three months.

Less than 24 hours later, a 66-year-old man was stopped driving along North Terrace Mount Gambier where he was also allegedly found with meth in his system.

Around 11am Wednesday, July 17, a 45-year-old male driver allegedly tested positive to meth on Mcintosh St, Mount Gambier. Police said he was already disqualified from driving and has been reported for traffic offences.

Two hours later on the same day, a 28-year-old man was allegedly busted driving while positive to meth on Wireless Rd East, Mount Gambier.

Just before 6pm, Thursday, July 18, a 52-year-old man was stopped by police on Riddoch Highway, Penola, where he was drug tested, allegedly returning a positive reading for driving with cannabis in his system and was issued with a three-month instant loss of licence.

Later that evening at 10pm, police stopped a car on Wehl Street North, Mount Gambier.

The driver, a 41-year-old woman, allegedly tested positive for meth.

Just before 11.30am, Friday July 19, police stopped a car on Alexander St, Tarpeena and breath tested the driver who returned a reading of 0.045. The 38-year-old man also returned a positive meth result

Further checks showed he was driving unlicensed and he was reported.

Around the same time in Moorak, a 42-year-old woman was stopped on Orchard Road and tested positive to meth.

Two days later on Monday, just after 8:45am, a 39-year-old woman was caught drink driving in Lucindale, blowing 0.123. She lost her car and licence for six months.

It comes after a 30-year-old Mount Gambier man was caught driving drunk at nearly triple the limit in the city’s main street.

He was the first of four Limestone Coast drivers to be caught and reported for drink driving last weekend.

The man was stopped by police on Commercial Street West around 5:50pm Friday, July 12, after checks showed his vehicle was unregistered. His license was also expired.

He blew 0.149 and was reported for drink driving, driving unregistered and driving with an expired licence.

His car was impounded for 28 days and he cannot hold a licence for six months.

About 20 minutes later, patrols stopped a Toyota HiLux on White Street in Mount Gambier.

The driver, a 35-year-old man from Wattle Range, returned positive result of 0.091.

At 9:48pm on Saturday, police stopped an Isuzu DMAX utility on Sea Parade at Port MacDonnell.

The driver, a 36-year-old man from Port MacDonnell, returned a positive result of 0.085.

They were both reported for drink driving and lost their licences for six months.

The next day, at 4:48pm, Millicent police stopped a Kia Cerato on Emily Street at Millicent.

The driver, a 63-year-old Millicent man, blew of 0.098, lost his licence for six months and his car for 28 days.

All four men will be summonsed to appear in court.
