A Mount Gambier man is set to appear in court on Wednesday after he was arrested for dangerous driving after a police pursuit.

Just before 2pm on Tuesday, police tried to stop a 45-year-old Mount Gambier man driving a Holden sedan on Commercial Street West.

The driver allegedly refused to stop and disobeyed a red light in order to turn left at Avey Rd and attempt to evade police.

Police pursued the driver on to Tollner Rd and White Ave where he appeared to lose control of the sedan and drove on the grass verge on the eastern side of the roadway.

The pursuit was terminated for safety reasons and the vehicle was last seen heading south on Carpenter Rocks Road.

A short time later, police saw the vehicle on Lock Rd at Moorak where the driver was arrested and charged with dangerous driving to escape police pursuit and driving in a dangerous manner.

His vehicle was impounded for 28 days and he was issued with a 12-month loss of licence.

He was bailed to appear in the Mount Gambier Magistrates Court on May 14.
