It will cover important crime and court updates, development news, and stories that showcase the success of local residents, such as Cawthorne Fisheries owner Nicky Cawthorne, who says things are looking up for rock lobster fishers this season.
Journalist Jessica Ball grew up on a farm at Gerrigerrup often her visiting family in Mount Gambier. After studying in Adelaide she has forged a career in regional media from sports reporter to weekly newspaper editor and joins The Mount Gambier News from The Shepparton News in regional Victoria.
The Mount Gambier News follows in the footsteps of Messenger’s other successful digital-only community websites: The Adelaide Hills News; The Barossa, Clare and Gawler News and The Port Lincoln News.
Publisher John McGourty said: “It has been a long-held ambition to bring our brand of high-quality local news to the South East and show true commitment to the local community by writing the sorts of stories that reflect their everyday lives, ambitions and concerns.
“Our story selection is based on feedback from our readers who tell us what matters most to them. I’m confident our readers will enjoy a new voice in their community.”
