A South East man who was found with “abhorrent” child abuse material after a tip off from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police has pleaded guilty.

Craig John Frost, 37 appeared at the Mount Gambier Magistrate Court on Monday charged with six separate child abuse and exploitation material offences dating from November 2018 to May 2020.

The Kingston South East man’s defence lawyer, Jarrad Sim, previously had the matter referred to the Adelaide District Court over concerns about his client’s mental “capacity”.

However, earlier this year in the District Court, Frost was determined to be mentally competent and fit to give instructions.

Frost pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated possess child exploitation material, one count each of possess/control child abuse material using a carriage service, use carriage service to access child pornography, use carriage service to transmit child abuse material to self and use carriage service to access child abuse material.

Frost was discovered with the “abhorrent” child abuse material and sexualised chat after Canadian Mounties found the accused using an online forum to receive 12 files of child exploitation material from a person overseas.

The AFP alleged the pair engaged in sexualised role play chat.

The Australian Federal Police-led Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation launched the investigation in 2019 following a tip-off from Canadian authorities.

The SA Police Joint Anti-Child Exploitation Team searched Frost’s home where they allegedly discovered large amounts of child abuse material on electronic devices.

Frost was remanded on bail and will face sentencing in July.
