As a high school student Mick Lamond always thought he would end up working on the family farm.
Then work experience at a butchery turned into an apprenticeship and six years later he bought Collins Court Butcher.
And if Mr Lamond wasn’t sure he had made the right decision, he is now.
From a field of 10, Collins Court has claimed the title of Limestone Coast best butcher by pulling in more than 30 per cent of the vote in our Delicious Local poll with Matt Preston.
Chuffed to hear about the win, Mr Lamond said he was grateful for customer support in 2020.
He said it felt like Christmas had come three times this year as customers stocked up ahead of COVID restrictions and encouraged people to continue buying local this festive season.
“It’s excellent, it just shows we’re doing something right with customer service and also the quality of the meat and seafood,” Mr Lamond said.
“With the way everything’s been if everyone can support local that would be great, especially the places that have battled being in lockdown and not able to open if they can get out and support as much as they can it would definitely be worth in the long run to keep everyone going.”
Flat out ahead of the real Christmas rush Mr Lamond said hams were flying out the door, turkey was enjoying a new-found popularity and affordable South Australian king prawn and crayfish prices had seen sea food sales take off.
