A 41-year-old McLaren Flat man has faced court after being tracked by police and Polair allegedly at high speeds on a stolen motorbike.

Michael Ross Rieck faced the Christies Beach Magistrates Court on Wednesday charged with dishonestly dealing with property and driving dangerously while disqualified, unregistered, uninsured and without number plates appropriately attached.

The court heard Rieck – an assistant farm manager at a McLaren Flat egg farm – allegedly exceeded 150km/h multiple times on the green Kawasaki motorcycle while driving between Seacombe Gardens and Seaford on Tuesday night.

“The offending before the court today is extremely serious to such an extent that PolAir was called in and in some instances the speed of the motorbike exceed 150 km/h,” a police prosecutor said.

“He was in excess of 150 multiple times (on) multiple side streets, main road and residential areas.

“He drove through a few red lights, crossed to the wrong side of the road and also overtook a bus.”

The court heard the police helicopter tracked Rieck along major southern roads including Main South Road, Panalatinga Road and Pimpala Road for more than 30 minutes before he stopped at a Seaford address and parked the motorbike in a shed.

He was later arrested at the address.

Police checks revealed Rieck’s license had been cancelled in 2014 due to a drug driving charge and the motorbike had been stolen in 2016.

“He also has similar related priors for driving behaviour in a similar manner, some of which he’s received a period of imprisonment for previously,” the police prosecutor said.

“The motorbike in question that he was riding was stolen in March 2016, he’s claimed that he purchased the bike from someone on Gumtree about two years ago.”

Magistrate Rodney Oates said he would only consider home detention bail for Rieck.

“He’s got a dreadful record for driving disqualified so he’d clearly be looking at a term of imprisonment if the matters were proven,” Mr Oates said.

Rieck’s home detention application will be assessed when he faces court again next week.
