Man makes lucky escape after his car became airborne and flipped at the notorious Britannia Roundabout

A man is lucky to have escaped without major injuries after his car became airborne and flipped overnight.

A man has been lucky to escape with only minor injuries after his car smashed into a gum tree at the Britannia Roundabout before flipping.

Emergency services were called to the roundabout at 2am on Sunday morning following reports a Toyota station wagon had lost control and crashed into the pedestrian island.

The car, which was travelling north on Fullarton Rd, lost control before becoming airborne and smashing into a large gum tree in the middle of the roundabout, flipping and coming to a stop at the other side of the roundabout.

The driver, a 28-year-old man from Mount Gambier, escaped with only minor injuries and was able to get himself out of the car.

The man was taken to hospital for the treatment of his injuries and a mandatory blood test.
