Grant Harvey, Grant Harvey Electrical, St Agnes named SA’s best

SA’s best sparky has been crowned – as voted by you. He shares the tricks of the trade that have helped him to be voted the state’s number one electrician.

Not many teenagers leave school with a clear career goal in mind, but for South Australia’s newly crowned sparky king, it was always his calling.

Grant Harvey of Grant Harvey Electrical at St Agnes took out the top gong in the Messenger’s latest ‘best of’ competition, in what he said was a rather ‘cool’ achievement.

Starting his apprenticeship in 1996, Mr Harvey admitted he always had tunnel vision for the gig.

“I always wanted to be a tradesman of some sort,” Mr Harvey said.

“Electrical was always appealing because of the variation you can get in your work and that still holds true to today.”

After nearly a decade in the industrial field, Mr Harvey turned his sights to commercial work before taking on the solar world.

“We always do our best to stay up to date with the latest and greatest,” he said.

“The quality of the equipment and the installation standards have gone to new levels every year and there’s a solution for everyone.

“Thankfully we have been busier than ever over the last two years and have helped people with the final touches on so many DIY projects.”

Now running a successful business, Mr Harvey said he would encourage any teenager or even adult who are seeking a job where no two days are the same to turn to an electrical trade.

“You can do so many different parts from the wiring side to the construction side to the underground work, there is a lot of variation.

“It’s a trade you can get into a make a good career out for anyone.”
