PLANS to build off-the-grid eco pods in the South Australian countryside have been released to the public for the first time.
Ponderosa Port Elliot has tabled plans outlining the construction of tourist accommodation comprising five self-contained pods, parts of which resemble a concrete pipe.
The development includes alterations to an existing farm cottage to create a bigger accommodation space.
The Hindmarsh Valley location is characterised by large rural and farming properties, used primarily for livestock.
A report on the development, submitted to Victor Harbor Council and the state government, says the accommodation aims to blend in with its surroundings and will hosts two guests per pod.
“Each pod has been sited and oriented to maximise views downhill to Victor Harbor and Port Elliot and have been designed to obscure the view of other pods through siting and window placement,” the report says.
“Pods one to four will comprise a single storey and pod five comprises two storeys.
“Subsequently, the scale of the pods and cottage will remain consistent with the rural character and will not compromise rural amenity.”
All the pods are for short-term hire and include bathroom, kitchen and bedroom facilities.
The property neighbours Jetty Farm, a small-scale family farm which incorporates a cellar door, regenerative food garden and short-term accommodation
The project is on public notification until September 7.
