Emergency services rush to abandoned home in Adelaide Hills after fire broke out

Emergency services have rushed to a fire in Mount Barker after fire tore through an abandoned home on Sunday morning.

Emergency services have battled a fire at an abandoned house at Mt Barker in the Adelaide Hills.

The Metropolitan Fire Service and Country Fire Service were called to Alexandrina Rd just before 10.30am following reports the house was alight.

A total of 22 firefighters from three MFS trucks and three CFS trucks spent 15 minutes getting the fire, and surrounding spot fires, under control.

It took a total of one hour to extinguish the blaze.

A witness said they believed the initial fire started in the chimney before spreading to the roof.

“No one (was) in there, but it had clearly been used by squatters,” he said.

“By the time the fireys arrived the entire house was in blaze, powerlines cracking and trees around the house catching fire.”

Fire Investigators remain on scene with the cause currently unknown.
