Video game and electronics retailer EB Games will shut four Adelaide stores by the end of January amid a difficult trading period.
The outfit, owned by US-based GameStop, on Thursday confirmed it would be closing 19 “unprofitable” stores across the country.
EB Games would not provide a list of the stores set to close in SA, however, its Brickworks, City Cross, Harbourtown and Hallett Cove shops have been removed from its website.
It will leave five stores in Adelaide.
In a written statement, EB Games said it was “constantly evaluating our property portfolio” and had decided to shutter the stores after “careful consideration”.
“Where possible, staff were offered the opportunity to work in surrounding stores,” the statement read.
They would not, however, confirm how many jobs would be lost.
EB Games intended to open a number of “large format stores” combined with another GameStop subsidiary, Zing Pop Culture.
There was no guarantee any more would be established in SA.
EB Games gift cards will still be valid in other stores or online.
