St Peters Bakehouse & Coffee Shop named best bakery in Adelaide’s East

For decades it’s been an iconic spot for eastern locals to grab a sweet treat, pie, pasty or sausage roll – and now it’s officially been named the best.

How much exercise burns off a treat?

From its unassuming spot on the corner of Seventh Ave, a St Peters bakery has established itself as a staple for local customers.

After more than two decades of trading, St Peters Bakehouse & Coffee Shop has been named the best bakery in Adelaide’s east, inner south and foothills in our latest Delicious local poll.

Owner Damien Obst – who has owned the shop for 23 years – said the bakery had truly stood the test of time.

“We’ve always tried to adapt and go with what our customers want and we pride ourselves on that,” he said.

“We offer a huge range now including vegan and gluten free and we’ve tried to always change with the times.

“So to still be going for this long and having lines out the door it’s a good sign.”

The popular bakery received more than 29 per cent of reader votes for the region.

After a tough year full of COVID-19 restrictions, Mr Obst said it was awesome to receive recognition and be voted best in the east.

“Even throughout COVID we made the pact to stay open no matter what even if it meant making less money,” he said.

“Our customers continued to support us throughout that time and we wanted to offer whatever we could to them and make sure to ask people how they were going during such tough times.

“We’ve just always wanted our customers to have what they want and that’s what we’ve been doing for 23 years.”

The bakehouse has expanded to two further SA locations in Thebarton and Ridgehaven and Mr Obst recently opened a new store – The Bakers Pantry – in Noosa, Queensland.

Other local favourites in the poll were Banana Boogie Bakery in Belair and Glenside’s The Village Baker.
