Plans to increase the height of a yet-to-be-built five-storey apartment building in Kent Town – on the site of the former Bureau of Meteorology – have been rejected by the State Commission Assessment Panel.
The panel this week found the proposal by Dellta Projects to add one more level was “unacceptable”.
This was despite a favourable recommendation for the extra storey from the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure.
The department’s senior planning officer, Will Gormly, said the additional level would not have an “overshadowing or overlooking” impact.
The panel said the entire project – a multi-building $24 million apartment complex at 25 College Rd approved in 2017 – was already an “over-height development”.

Branded the Observatory, the development would contain a seven-storey block and a six-storey block, along with the approved five-storey building.
It has been advertised as offering 70 apartments and eight two-storey townhouses.
Public consultation on the original proposal detailed concerns about a loss of privacy, and overlooking of the Prince Alfred College boarding house on Little Young St.
Work was initially planned to begin in the first half of this year and take 18 months to complete.
Dellta Projects has declined to comment.
