Single mum Chun Liu allegedly had a drug dealing business at Magill home while raising 9yo

A single mum is accused of running a significant drug business, with fantasy allegedly found in a Sprite bottle - as well as a large amount of other drugs - in the same house her daughter lives at.

The Ripple Effect – Drugs

A mother was allegedly running a significant drug dealing business out of her home while raising her nine-year-old daughter.

Chun Yi Liu, 41, applied for bail by video link in the Adelaide Magistrates Court last Wednesday, after a police search uncovered large amounts of drugs.

A police prosecutor opposed the bail application, saying it was a strong prosecution case and Liu’s alleged offending appeared to be escalating.

The court heard police attended Liu’s Magill address on May 4.

“On entering the premises, they found the defendant and her nine-year-old daughter,” the police prosecutor said.

“They found within the kitchen fridge two glass bottles containing approximately 400ml of GBL.”

GBL is a precursor to GHB, also known as fantasy.

Police also allegedly found six mobile phones, $8000 and hundreds of empty resealable bags.

“They found documentation showing several post office boxes and the importation of chemical liquids,” the police prosecutor said.

“When conducting a search of the garage area, police located a 20L petrol can on the floor containing approximately 18L of hypophosphorous acid.”

Hypophosphorous acid is a precursor for illicit drugs, including methamphetamine.

The court heard Liu was on bail for another drug trafficking charge from January 26.

“It’s not a circumstance where there may be one isolated room in a premises which has substances used for the manufacture or trafficking of drugs,” the police prosecutor said.

“These substances were located in various rooms of the premises.

“It’s a significant amount of fantasy that was located in the kitchen. A trafficable amount is 1ml and 400ml was located.”

The police prosecutor told the court Liu’s house was not a suitable environment for a child, with some of the substances allegedly found in a Sprite bottle.

Liu is charged with drug trafficking, manufacturing a controlled drug and possessing a large commercial quantity of controlled precursor. She is yet to enter any pleas.

Christina Chrisakas, for Liu, said Liu would be contesting the allegations.

“She stated a number of people had been in and out of the house but can’t recall who they are,” she said.

The court heard Liu had moved to Australia from Taiwan in 1998 and is a permanent resident.

“She is the single mother of a nine-year-old daughter,” Ms Chrisakas said.

“She could be on remand for up to two years when her child may be in government care because she’s not able to care for her at the time.”

The court heard Liu would live with her friend at Woodville West if released on bail.

In the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday, Magistrate Nick Alexandrides granted Liu bail.
