THE future looks seriously bright for Redbacks rookie-listed cricketer Alex Gregory.
On the field he is regarded as one of the brightest prospects in the country, but it is in the classroom that Gregory has showcased his ability of late.
The St Peter's College student received his Year 12 results last month and recorded a tertiary entrance ranking of 99.1, virtually assuring he will be accepted to study law/commerce at Adelaide University.
"Things went pretty well,'' the modest 18-year-old said.
"I'm pretty happy with the result.
"It's definitely a relief."
Gregory studied chemistry, maths studies, English studies and physical education this year and undertook Year 12 biology last year, receiving 19.49 (out of 20) in maths.
Despite his bright future in the classroom, he will defer his studies next year to concentrate on cricket.
An almost-certain selection in the Australian under-19 cricket team next year, the all-rounder will look to continue on his solid domestic summer form before potentially playing cricket in England over the winter.
"I'm going to give cricket the best shot I can,'' he said.
Gregory captained SA's under-19 team at the recent national championships in Adelaide.
He is one of three current state under-age captains St Peter's has produced.
Matt Allen is SA's under-17 captain and also earned an Adelaide Strikers rookie contract this year while Josh Hoffman captains SA's under-13 team.
