THE realignment of Blackwood roundabout has again been delayed, with the State Government now predicting work should begin early next year.

A statement from the Transport Department has confirmed a 2019 construction start — despite the fact it was meant to have started in April this year.

The roundabout has been a major source of frustration for motorists for several decades.

Minor preparation work began this month, including the protection of Telstra service lines and tree removal.

The Blackwood war memorial soldier statue — which will remain in front of the Uniting Church — is to be removed after Remembrance Day commemorations on November 11 and restored off-site.

It would be returned after the completion of the $3.5m roundabout upgrade.

The department anticipated night works would be needed to reduce traffic issues.

Some road resurfacing the area would be completed at the same time, followed by final landscaping works in the second quarter of 2019.

The Transport Department said it would notify residents and businesses before starting night works.

In March this year, the government announced it would begin major works on the roundabout after Anzac Day.

It revised the construction time again in June, having said work would begin in August and be completed by early November.
