PRINCE Alfred College will spend more than $10 million to upgrade its Kent Town campus, including a fully-enclosed pedestrian bridge over The Parade West.
Designs for the upgrade — now released for public consultation — include a five-storey, 150-room boarding house on the northeastern side of The Parade West.
An enclosed pedestrian bridge connecting the school’s main campus with the new boarding house is included in the plans, which will be assessed by the state’s Development Assessment Commission.
Two lawn areas and a private courtyard off Little Young St are also featured in the designs.
Principal Bradley Fenner had no detailed costings for the project, but said the school would spend more than $10 million on the development.
Mr Fenner said it would allow the school to merge its existing four boarding houses into one “state-of-the-art” building.
The bridge would be necessary to ensure students had safe and convenient access across The Parade West, he said.
Work could start as early as next year, subject to the commission’s approval as well as endorsement by the school’s governing council.
