Paul Krivitch granted bail in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday, charged with disqualified driving

An alleged high-range drink driver snuck a lift in the tray of a tow truck to where his car was being towed and then drove it out, a court has heard.

An alleged drink driver’s creative ways to get his car out of the towing yard has ended in a new raft of charges against him.

Paul Krivitch, 56, applied for bail by video link in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday, after he allegedly hitched a free lift to rescue his car.

A police prosecutor opposed the bail application, saying the allegations were “quite serious.”

“His behaviour shows little regard for the law,” the police prosecutor said.

“We’ve also got information that he is intending to travel to Victoria.”

The court heard Krivitch was issued with an immediate loss of licence after he was charged with a category three drink driving offence on February 27 in Adelaide.

Category three is the highest drink driving category, where the driver is charged with returning a reading of 0.15 or higher.

“His vehicle was towed to the southern impound yard – there’s video footage of him being on the tray of the tow truck besides his car where he’s stayed near his car until he’s gotten to the southern impound yard,” the police prosecutor said.

“He’s then gotten into his car and driven out of the premises there.”

The court heard Krivitch has previously been convicted of drink driving.

Krivitch, of Norwood, is charged with multiple offences, including driving disqualified, travelling on a part of a vehicle not designed for passengers and unlawfully on premises.

He is yet to enter any pleas.

Elliot King, for Krivitch, told the court his client had missed his flight to Victoria and had most of his ties in South Australia.

“Mr Krivitch was due to board a flight today to Victoria – his son recently moved there and he was to assist him to move,” Mr King said.

The court heard Krivitch was made redundant from his job in 2019 and was receiving Jobseeker payments.

Magistrate Simon Smart granted Krivitch bail.

The charges were adjourned until May.
