Marryatville Pizza Pan will have double the celebration this week after being named the best pizza shop in Adelaide’s east while also celebrating 40 years of business.

The Kensington Road shop – which also includes dine-in restaurant Antico Forno – received more than 18 per cent of reader votes in our latest Delicious Local poll.

Owner Eric Catalano who runs the business with his brother-in-law Frank Cutri said consistency was the secret to a successful four decades of pizza.

Mr Catalano’s parents opened the shop in March 1981 and still lend a hand in the kitchen and train staff.

“My mum is still the pasta cook who teaches the young people to cook the pasta in case she needs a day off and my dad does prep work for us during the day,” he said.

“Everyone trains to make the products the same and we don’t skimp on any cheap products.”

And when it comes to premium offerings, it doesn’t get much better than the Aragosta pizza topped with lobster tail, rose sauce, anchovies and chilli.

Just 18 months ago, Mr Catalano and his team of 18 staff moved shops and expanded their offering to wood-oven pizzas through Antico Forno.

“After doing it for 40 years we just couldn’t just stop our conventional pizzas so we decided to do both and it’s really working for us,” he said.

“We had a fantastic response from our customers, we’re booking out all the time.

“We’re the only pizza bar I think in Adelaide that does both wood oven and conventional conveyor belt pizzas.”
