Ian Markos, Master Builders Association chief, to retire from top construction job
The boss of one of SA’s top construction bodies has announced he will retire at the end of the year, as the industry positions itself as a major player in recovering the state’s economy.

Respected construction industry boss Ian Markos is set to retire at the end of the year.
The chief executive of the Master Builders Association’s South Australian chapter will hang up his boots just shy of his 61st birthday.
He has, however, flagged the potential of continuing in the industry as a part-time consultant.
Mr Markos – a former director of SafeWork SA – has been chief of the organisation for five years.
He was the group’s policy director before being appointed boss.
He has also worked for the UK Health and Safety Executive and construction companies around Australia.
The Master Builders Association has begun looking for a replacement.
Mr Markos said the organisation had “never been in a better position than it is now” and he thought it was a good time to “hand the baton over”.
“We’re very strong financially, we’re very active and we have a strong reputation for advocacy on behalf of members,” Mr Markos said.
“As well as all the services we provide to members, we have really built the association up a strong, leading organisation.”
He cited the need to spend more time on his family and personal life as reasons for his retirement.
“I didn’t want to become one of those guys who leaves it too late to retire and can’t do anything because of health or whatever,” Mr Markos said.
Mr Markos has most recently led a campaign to bring forward major South Australian infrastructure projects to help restart the state’s economy following coronavirus.
Mr Markos will leave the Master Builders Association in December.
