Historic Adelaide mansion to be dwarfed by 65-home, 10-storey neighbour
IT’S one of a handful of mansions still standing on the edge of the Parklands but soon it’ll be dwarfed by a new 65-house, 10-storey development planned next door.
PLANS for a 10-storey building in Parkside have been given the green light, paving the way for work on the $45 million project to start next year.
The Development Assessment Commission (DAC) last month approved Austecvs Pty Ltd’s plans for 65 houses behind the state heritage-listed Carramar House, at the corner of Greenhill Rd and George St.
The development, to be known as One on the Park, would include 60 one, two and three bedroom apartments and five townhouses, as well as ground-level offices and a cafe.
The 1840s-built Carramar House would be restored for use as an office.
Titan Corporation managing director Greg Molfetas, who is managing the project, said off-the-plan sales would start before Christmas, with apartments ranging from $345,000 to $2 million. Mr Molfetas expected construction to start in July and be completed by the end of 2018.
The 10-storey building would be the second tallest on Greenhill Rd, behind the 13-storey Air Apartments, in Eastwood.
Unley Council had raised concerns with DAC about the development, saying it exceeded a seven-storey height limit for the area and would overshadow neighbouring homes.
But the commission disagreed, accepting a recommendation from a Planning Department architect that the proposal was “not unreasonable” for the area and a “good example of mixed use development”.
