Hamburger shop Nordburger to replace Fisherman’s Basket on Glen Osmond Rd, Frewville

FIRST it was in Norwood, then it was in Hindmarsh – now one of Adelaide’s favourite burger joints is coming to Glen Osmond Rd, replacing an icon of the area.

HIP hamburger chain Nordburger will next week replace Fisherman’s Basket at one of Adelaide’s most prominent locations.

It will be the third outlet for Nordburger, which led the up-market hamburger craze in 2013 with its first shop on The Parade.

It opened a second outlet in Hindmarsh in March.

Co-owner Victoria Martin said the new location, at the corner of Glen Osmond Rd and Main Ave, Frewville, was “a great spot” that would provide “excellent exposure for the brand”.

It is next to the trendy Frewville Foodland, not far from hipster haunt Hispanic Mechanic and across the road from the busy Arkaba Hotel and shopping centre.

“We’ve been amazed at the volume of customers (coming past) since we’ve been on site doing the renovation,” Ms Martin said.

Fisherman’s Basket closed in September after 40 years at the same location.

Like the Hindmarsh restaurant, Nordburger at Frewville will be licensed.

Ms Martin said business at Hindmarsh was “very strong”.

“We haven’t done summer yet though, so it will be interesting to see if a really hot stretch of weather slows us down a bit,” she said.

“I think the western side of town likes to head to the beach when the weather heats up – we’ll see.”

Burger lovers Joe Birks and Luke Ortmann, both 32, are looking forward to going to Nordburger at Frewville.

“Burger spots are popping up everywhere – it’s just fantastic,” Mr Birks said.

Ms Martin expected the Frewville Nordburger to open next Thursday, December 10, “fingers crossed”.
