Updated plans for a Kaufland supermarket at Forestville will include a cafe and a children’s play area.
The German supermarket chain has been reassessing its plans for a $34 million outlet at the former LeCornu site on Anzac Highway.
The State Commission Assessment Panel last August deferred making a decision on Kaufland’s application for the supermarket, asking for it to rethink plans for the Leader St facade, setbacks to Maple Ave and commit to a “land management agreement that secures the balance of the site for predominantly residential purposes”.
It also asked for “more effective interface treatments between the eastern boundary and the remaining undeveloped portion of the site to ensure a suitable environment for future residential uses”.
Kaufland says it has addressed several issues raised by the panel and its “improved design” now includes a cafe and play area.
It had also created an “improved facade” on Leader St.
A Kaufland spokeswoman told the Eastern Courier Messenger the development could also include a newsagent, chemist and a “small food and beverage shop”.
The supermarket chain is currently in discussions with Unley Council and the planning department and is expected to submit a revised plan to the government’s assessment panel in the next few months.
Unley Council previously said the supermarket proposal was not an ideal use for the land.
