East Torrens' Ayden McGregor-Baptista plays for Australian Indigenous Development Squad
EAST Torrens cricketer Ayden McGregor-Baptista says playing for the Australian Indigenous Development Squad is the highlight of his career.
EAST Torrens cricketer Ayden McGregor-Baptista says representing the Australian Indigenous Development Squad in Queensland last week was the highlight of his burgeoning career to date.
At just 15, the off-spinner played some handy cameo roles as the Indigenous side finished third in the under-23 Asia Pacific Rising Stars trophy in Brisbane.
"I'm very proud to be representing Australia in an Indigenous team,'' McGregor-Baptista told the East Torrens Messenger.
"It is something that you dream of being able to do."
The youngster took to the field in four matches throughout the tournament, including in the third-place play-off match against the Combined Services (Defence Force) team, which the Indigenous side won by nine runs.
McGregor-Baptista took 1/35 in the Twenty20 match as his side defended its 140.
Earlier in the tournament, he took 2/10 during a pool match and also made a couple of handy scores batting down the order.
The emerging player will now focus on attempting to make East Torrens' A-grade side in Grade Cricket this season.
He was 12th-man in a one-day match last season but played mainly B-grade.
"It was good to have some matches (in Brisbane) after not playing for a while,'' he said.
"I'll just concentrate on trying to improve, but that (playing A-grade) would be great."
