An authentic Italian restaurant, a wellness studio and a science themed cafe have been named some of the best in the east at the Eastside Business Awards on Tuesday night.
From more than 400 nominations, 12 winners were decided by your 7600 votes and a judging panel of representatives from Norwood, Payneham & St Peters Council and the Eastern Courier Messenger.
Winners of the 12 categories, including new categories for best emerging/start-up business and best entertainment venue, were announced in an award ceremony at St Peters Town Hall.
After more than 36 years in Norwood, Outdoors on the Parade became the second inductee into the Hall of Fame.
“It’s incredibly exciting, we all absolutely adore Norwood and love being part of the area and this just reaffirms that for us,” owner Annie Lovejoy said.
“The awards are fantastic and brings the whole neighbourhood together, everyone is excited for everyone else and it’s just wonderful.”
First time winners The Lab Food + Coffee took out the coveted Best Cafe award this year.
Co-owners Jodi Duyster and Nadia Makovec were visibly shocked by the announcement.
“It’s amazing, we never expected this considering the amazing businesses we were up against,” Ms Makovec said.
Matt Wishart, Lab Food + Coffee head chef and manager, said the awards gave the local community a chance to come together and celebrate one another.
“There’s so much camaraderie here and it’s good to come together as a community,” he said.
“It’s absolutely amazing for the team, they’ve put so much effort in and it’s a win for everyone that works for the cafe and the local community that we support.”
This year’s awards saw increased support for local businesses with close to double the amount of nominations than the inaugural awards last year.
Norwood, Payneham & St Peters Mayor Robert Bria said the awards helped to promote the local economy and businesses had enjoyed increased support from the community.
“Support for local business in our city is clear from the number of nominations received this year,” Mr Bria said.
“To be an Eastside Business Award winner, or finalist, shows a business has had an exceptional impact not only on an individual, but also the wider community.
“The council congratulates all of the businesses who received an award this year, as well as the many other businesses that were nominated.”
