Nutrition Republic’s novel way to attract customers during King William Rd upgrade

The attraction of truck watching is helping lure customers to a popular King William Rd cafe during a $15.5 million upgrade of the shopping precinct.

A popular King William Rd cafe has come up with a novel was to attract families to the dining and shopping strip during a disruptive $15.5 million upgrade.

Nutrition Republic has been promoting its business on social media as the place to be for children who love trucks, bulldozers, excavators and other machinery.

Co-owner Nicole Sumracki said parents had brought their children to the corner shop specifically to watch the roadworks.

“My husband was chatting to a customer outside and he was there with his son having a smoothie and looking at trucks,” Ms Sumracki said.

“The father said (his son) was a bit truck crazy at the moment, so it might be a great opportunity for parents to bring their children down to look at the trucks.”

Currently, the road is blocked to traffic between Park St and Arthur St to make way for Unley Council’s upgrade of the shopping precinct.

It is expected to reopen on August 7.

The works have divided traders, with many concerned it will lead to a drop in trade.

The Advertiser reported yesterday the closure had left the road a ghost town.

“Construction always causes some inconvenience, and people view it in a negative light, but there will be a positive outcome in the end,” Ms Sumracki said.

Unley Council acting chief executive Nicola Tinning said the council was mindful of minimising the impact of the works on traders.

“The decision to close the road now is to coincide with school holidays and was made in consultation with traders,” Ms Tinning said.

“This will also be of advantage to commuters given the lower peak hour traffic movements which generally occur during school holidays.”
