Mount Barker District Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital will get an upgraded emergency department under an $8.6 million grant from the Federal Government.
The plan includes a separate ambulance entrance, two new paediatric beds and new triage area in a region booming with young families.
The grant to a key centre in the politically-sensitive federal seat of Mayo – held by the Centre Alliance’s Rebekha Sharkie – comes as SA Health deals with chronic ambulance ramping and the federal election draws near.
The Federal Government on Tuesday announced it would put $30 million towards a joint $70 million redevelopment of the Repatriation General Hospital.
