Vision of roaring lions and mischievous meerkats at San Diego Zoo will help calm children waiting to have tests at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
The hospital has partnered with the zoo to stream the San Diego Zoo Kids channel in the waiting room and wards at its pathology unit.
Footage from Adelaide Zoo will also be screened.
SA Pathology clinical services director Tom Dodd said the channel – which would include interactive quizzes and short videos about animals – would help children cope with the fear that can come with undergoing tests.
“We are always looking for ways to brighten our patients’ day and make them more comfortable while undergoing procedures, such as blood and urine tests or biopsies, to ensure they’re not scared to come back in the future,” Dr Dodd said.
The San Diego Zoo Kids channel is screened in 234 children’s hospitals and Ronald McDonald Houses around the world.
