Urban Cow Studio, home of ‘Heaps Good SA’ tee celebrates 20-year milestone

THE city studio popular for its locally-made jewellery, glassware, paintings — and the ‘Heaps Good SA’ tee — is celebrating 20 years of showcasing Adelaide creativity.

URBAN Cow Studio employee Eliza was just four months old when she first visited the Adelaide gallery for its inaugural art exhibition 20 years ago.

Her mother Carollyn was showcasing her illustrations.

Now, after working at the studio for the past five years, Eliza, 20, is celebrating two decades of the studio rich in family history.

Urban Cow Studio’s milestone event presents the work of 40 hand-picked artists who have contributed to the studio’s success, some of whom were in its first exhibition.

Eliza said that although her mother did not contribute to this showcase following a career change, she has many fond memories of the studio that ‘she grew up around’.

“I’ll always remember my mum always saying ‘don’t touch anything’ and everything being really colourful and bright,” says Eliza.

“Now I think that people are shocked when they find out that this was my first job and that there is so much family history involved … not everyone has a job that they have such a strong connection with.”

The studio is popular for its Adelaide-made jewellery, glassware, paintings and the infamous ‘Heaps Good SA’ T-shirt.

She started in retail but has been given extra opportunities over the years by owner Mick Krieg including artist liaison, curator and social media marketing.

Mr Krieg said says Eliza is “a natural and just fit in”.

“When I look back now and see photos of her as a child here when we first opened it’s almost a little surreal.”
