TWO men have been arrested after another incident at Hutt St, this time inside the Hutt Street Centre which resulted in one man being taken to hospital.
South Australia Police have released a statement saying that two men were arrested following a “disturbance” in the Southeastern section of the CBD earlier Thursday morning.
A 23-year-old Hawthorn man was arrested for assault, while a 39-year-old man from Hawthorn was charged with disorderly behaviour and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on June 18.
One of the suspects sustained a minor injury during the altercation and is being treated in hospital.
Police say they two men entered a premises on Hutt St and started behaving in a disorderly manner.
When a staff member confronted the two men, police say they became aggressive and one of them attempted to assault the worker.
They were detained until police patrols arrived.
A spokesman for the Hutt Street Centre confirmed that it was the premises referred to by police and the incident was a disagreement between individuals believed to be occasional clients inside the Centre — which has which has faced claims its clients are causing some of the escalating violence and anti-social behaviour in the area.
“Staff followed protocol by calling police,” he said.
It is the second time in just over a month that police have made arrests over incidents in Hutt St.
The Adelaide City Council also stationed a security guard outside a business on the strip after it received a threat for speaking out against some of the problems Hutt St was experiencing.
Adelaide Councillor Anne Moran — who has been extremely vocal calling on the council to quickly act to help embattled traders on Hutt St — said those who were denying there was a problem in the area needed to get their “heads out of the sand”.
“I want people to get their heads out of the sand and help the council help the centre solve the problem,” she said.
