GIVING local creatives an outlet to showcase their wares and works during the COVID-19 pandemic is important to The Mill director Katrina Lazaroff.

The Mill – a venue that features creative workspaces, residencies, professional development programs and space for hire – has been committed to keeping its doors open.

It has now been nominated in the Adelaide Artisan Award in the #MyAdelaide City Awards.

“We were able to stay open for the 47 artists that are based here – we were even able to give our resident artists three months free rent to keep them going,” Ms Lazaroff says.

“It was really important to keep our artists here and keep them happy … so their businesses didn’t fall apart.”

Entrepreneur Erin Fowler and Amber Cronin started the Angas St venue in 2013 as part of a bid to increase the amount of space for creatives and stop losing them to other states.

The location was an “old, broken down warehouse” that needed some tender love and care.

It has now become the home of designers include cycling vest retailer Hey Reflect’o and label House of Campbell.

Ms Lazaroff says she is proud to be a nominee in the awards, which celebrates CBD and North Adelaide businesses.

“We really want the general public to support us supporting artists and makers be the best they can be,” Ms Lazaroff says.

#MyAdelaide City Awards voting closes on Wednesday, September 30.
