A man who allegedly raped a woman in an alleyway outside the Dog and Duck nightclub then told her to drop the charges, a court heard.

Shane Anthony Gray, 22, awaits a judge’s decision from custody after admitting to pressuring the teenager to withdraw the case after the alleged sexual assault.

Lucy Hurley, for the prosecution, asked the District Court to revoke Mr Gray’s bail, saying he can’t comply with bail conditions and there was a risk to the alleged victim.

The court heard Mr Gray and the alleged victim, who was aged 19 at the time, had previously spoken on Facebook but hadn’t met until the night of the alleged offending.

“On 10 April (last year) they coincidentally met at the Dog and Duck hotel in the city,” Ms Hurley said.

“It’s alleged they had consensual sexual intercourse in the disabled toilet in the venue.”

The court heard Mr Gray was then ejected from the venue and the alleged victim went outside to order an Uber and saw him.

“The accused has then led her down an alleyway off Hindley Street and into an alcove where it is alleged he raped her,” Ms Hurley said.

The court heard the alleged victim immediately reported the matter to police.

Mr Gray, of Munno Para, pleaded not guilty to rape and will face trial next year.

The court heard after Mr Gray was given a bail condition not to contact the alleged victim.

However, on April 13, last year Gray called the alleged victim from a no Caller ID.

“When she’s answered, he’s told her to drop the charges,” Ms Hurley said.

“He’s willing to commit further offences by putting pressure on the complainant to drop the current charges.”

Mr Gray was charged with dissuading a witness – which he’s since pleaded guilty to – and placed on home detention bail.

The court heard Mr Gray had allegedly breached bail conditions again by returning positive drug tests.

The application was adjourned until later this week.
