PROSPECT’S Spring Fair will be held at Broadview Oval for the first time in its 40-year history this Saturday.
It is also the first time the fair will be held in spring – previously it was just known as the Prospect Fair and held in autumn.
Prospect Mayor David O’Loughlin said moving the fair from its traditional home in St Helen’s Park was “controversial”.
“Some residents have questioned why we’ve broken with tradition and couldn’t have celebrated the 40-year anniversary at the original fair site,” Mr O’Loughlin said.
“My response is that it was time we provided a major event in the east of our city at Broadview Oval.
“So, as a community, we’re marking the 40th year in a brand new location that will allow dogs, sporting activities, car shows and car boot sales, as well as all the usual fabulous fare.
“I think it will be a big win for everyone, especially when we can encourage residents to bring their dogs along with them this year.”
The fair will include live music, giant versions of Jenga, Connect Four and noughts and crosses and come-and-try sessions for sports and dancing.
Dancers from College Park studio Belly Dance Arabesque will perform two half-hour sets.
Studio Owner Regan Gardner said it was exciting to bring belly dancing to Broadview.
“It’s a lot of fun, it’s got movement, it’s low impact and it’s social as well,” Mrs Gardner said.
There will also be a market, petting zoo, Punch and Judy show and other children’s entertainment.
The fair is on from 9am to 3pm at Broadview Oval, Poltawa Tce. Entry is free.
