Pop powerhouse Pink’s Adelaide Oval blockbuster worth millions to city traders

Who needs TayTay? Pink is expected to perform in front of a swarm of fans at Adelaide Oval on Tuesday – and that’s a very big deal for one struggling sector.

Pop powerhouse Pink is set to deliver a financial boost worth millions of dollars to the city when she takes to the stage at Adelaide Oval this week.

With a crowd of almost 60,000 fans expected, the concert is tipped to produce one of the busiest nights of the year for struggling CBD hotels, pubs and restaurants, according to the Adelaide Economic Development Agency.

AEDA’s general manager Greg Ratsch said Pink’s performance should “significantly” grow night time activity and spending levels in the city, while hotels are already at 92 per cent occupancy on Tuesday.

Taylor might have done swiftie on Adelaide but Pink’s concert is set to be a boon for the city and bring in millions of dollars for our hospitality, retail and accommodation businesses,” said Mr Ratsch.

“We expect the Tuesday of Pink’s concert to be one of the busiest overall days for the city this year.”

A spokeswoman for the Pink tour said they have sold over 56,000 tickets for Tuesday night’s concert with a final release of seats going on sale this week.

It’s expected the show will rival British singer Ed Sheeran’s Oval concert in March last year, which produced about $7 million in spend, five times the average for a normal Tuesday night. It was the fourth busiest day in the city in 2023.

“Concertgoers come into the city, they might do some shopping beforehand, have a pre-show meal or post-show drink, and many will stay the night in a hotel,” said Mr Ratsch.

“These events are vital to supporting a vibrant and liveable city and they help promote Adelaide as a tourism destination.”

Australian Hotels Association SA chief executive Anna Moeller said Pink’s Adelaide Oval gig was “absolutely massive” for nearby food and beverage businesses, and predicted up to a 60-70 per cent boost in revenue for most venues.

“They will be packed to the rafters, places will be heaving,” she said.

“We lost some of the swifties to interstate but we’re pretty in Pink in Adelaide. She’s really an A-list, headline act, equal in stature to Taylor Swift and has a massive following.

“It will draw interstate and local people who will take the opportunity to stay in town and they will want to party on. That’s the kind of act she is.”

2KW general manager Simon Adami said they were expecting a “real boost” to their midweek business.

“The city certainly comes alive when significant international entertainment names come to town,” he said.

“We’ve already booked many Pink ticket holders in for pre drinks and dinner and will see many more after the show.”
