Old Hutt St servo transformed into Ride Contour community cycling hub

A vacant city servo has been transformed into a community hub for cyclists days before the TDU, offering everything from repairs, retail – and of course, coffee.

Amateur cyclists will face gruelling hill climbs in the 2023 Tour Down Under

A dormant Caltex service station on Hutt Street has been transformed into a new one-stop-shop for cyclists in the CBD with the opening of Ride Contour on Friday.

The new Penny Hospitality venue offers an on-site bicycle mechanic, retail space, cafe, and outdoor seating in a space that can fit up to 1000 people.

Penny Hospitality founder and keen cyclist Hugo Pedler described the venue as a passion project and “community hub” for people who love riding.

“Ride Contour will be a bike shop and a café, but it’s also about being a community hub,” he said.

“We have been able to look at this project and say ‘okay, it’s about the community’ and really focus on making it the best (space) it can possibly be.

“For us, Hutt Street is the highway to the east and we really love it as a site that’s close to the Hills and beach.”

Ride Contour will stock big brands such as Specialized Bikes, Orbea Bikes, MAAP, Rapha and be the only Adelaide retailer of Aussie bike brand, Curve.

Rapha will take over the old NAB building next door for the Santos Tour Down Under as a pop-up store from January 13 to 22.

During the Santos Tour Down Under, Ride Contour will host live music, food trucks and a bar alongside a Rapha apparel pop-up store next door at the old NAB building.

Ride Contour will be open seven days a week from 7pm to 4pm.
