An HIV-positive man charged with indecently assaulting a boy and supplying drugs to children has been allegedly bashed by the boy’s father, a court has heard.
Mark Vernon Anderson, 52, applied for bail by video link in the Adelaide Magistrates Court last week, charged with procuring children for sexual activity.
The court heard Anderson has HIV.
Anderson’s lawyer told the court that an alleged victim had reported to police that he had been allegedly bitten by an HIV-positive man.
However, he refused to receive any medical treatment.
Anderson’s lawyer said, despite that allegation, the victim allegedly willingly returned to Anderson and was then indecently assaulted.
“We accept completely that they are very serious allegations before the court,” he said.
The court heard the alleged victim’s father was released from custody in July this year and then allegedly assaulted Anderson in August.
“He (the father) has allegedly broken into my client’s home and severely assaulted him to the point of loss of consciousness,” the lawyer said.
The court heard Anderson was arrested by police on September 19.
Anderson, of Adelaide, is charged with supply or administer controlled drug to a child, procure child for sexual activity and indecently assault a person.
He is yet to enter any pleas.
“He has been subject again, because of his health status to multiple assaults while he’s been in custody,” the lawyer said.
The court heard Anderson, who suffers from many health problems, had to be placed in protective custody in jail.
Magistrate Brett Dixon adjourned the matter to make inquiries for a potential bail address.
