E-Scooters to remain in the Adelaide CBD for another three months

E-Scooters will keep rolling in the city until the end of January 2020, with a view to have them on the streets past that date
Adelaide City Council last night voted to keep them on CBD roads, as well as ask the State Government to extend the trial into North Adelaide.
Operators Beam and RIDE would be able to keep their fleet of 500 scooters each, rather than be forced to remove them next month.
The extra three months would allow the council to review current permit conditions and prepare an expression of interest for e-scooters to continue operating past January.
RIDE chief executive Tom Cooper said scooters were providing an environmentally friendly transport solution – and was happy that could continue.
“It will enable us to continue investing in the local community,” Mr Cooper said.
“RIDE’s staff and partners are extremely grateful to be granted the opportunity to continue our operations in Adelaide leading into summer.
Beam’s head of Australian public affairs Brad Kitschke said he was happy with the council’s decision, but wanted to see scooters rolled out in other areas across the state.
“We are pleased with the unanimous decision to extend our permit and thankful for the confidence that the Adelaide City Council has shown in our service,” Mr Kitschke said.
The council plans to organise a meeting with surrounding local government areas to discuss a uniform approach to e-scooters in their areas.
New permits for operators would be issued at the end of January 2020.
