CONSTRUCTION of the controversial Adelaide Oval Hotel has missed its “preliminary” deadline.
Work on the hotel was anticipated to start by June, however, a Stadium Management Authority spokeswoman said it would now start in July.
The spokeswoman disputed a “delay” and said building was on its “original schedule”, despite the website saying “construction is anticipated to commence in May/June 2019”.
She said that was just a “preliminary deadline”.
The $42 million hotel, which would have 128 rooms, would still be completed by June 2020, in time for the ICC World T20.
“Building tenders close tomorrow and work is anticipated to commence in early July,” she said.
“Once appointed, the successful builder will apply for the construction access permit as per standard process.”
It comes as the AFL fronted a parliamentary select committee yesterday.
A parliamentary select committee was established late last year to inquire into the Stadium Management Authority’s plan to build the hotel at Adelaide Oval.
AFL’s head of club performance and strategy David Grossman yesterday fronted the committee and said it would be the first hotel attached to an AFL stadium in Australia.
The AFL announced similar intentions for Marvel Stadium, in Melbourne’s docklands, in early 2018, but plans were still in early stages.
