Bridal on Pulteney closed, but a former worker is helping women get their dress

A former worker and a seamstress are helping brides-to-be affected by the sudden closure of Bridal on Pulteney to get their dream wedding gowns.

Most brides-to-be affected by the sudden closure of Bridal on Pulteney will get their dream dress and not be out of pocket, thanks to a former employee and a seamstress.

After learning Bridal on Pulteney had gone into liquidation on Monday morning, Jenny Alesci drove 90 minutes from her home in Palmer to recover gowns from the shop.

Ms Alesci, who had worked at the store for about two years, was given permission by the liquidator, BCR Advisory, to do so.

With the help of seamstress Laura Searle, who did contract work for the failed business, the pair have been calling brides who had feared they would not be getting their wedding dresses.

“(Laura) and I are not going to leave this shop until we know every single bride is getting their gown, even the ones that are on order,” Ms Alesci said.

“All (the dresses) that we had on lay-by I have taken … because we are giving them to the brides whether they owe money on it or not.

“I don’t care – they are taking their dresses.”

Ms Alesci has also contacted suppliers who have agreed to honour dresses that had been ordered prior to Bridal on Pulteney closing.

The Advertiser reported yesterday that tough retail conditions had been blamed for the popular bridal store, which held one of SA’s largest collections of bridal and bridesmaid gowns, going into liquidation.

It had been operating for more than a decade, and won a swag of awards in that time.

The store traded on Saturday, February 15, and took deposits from brides right up until its closure.

The business is owned by Romeo Investments (Aust) Pty Ltd.

Owner Antonio Romeo was contacted for comment.

A BCR Advisory spokesman said the liquidator was working with Ms Alesci to help brides receive their dresses.

He said any money owing on ordered dresses would have to be paid in full.

Ms Searle, who said she was owed about $3500 from Bridal on Pulteney, felt sorry for the few women left out of pocket.

“One girl who is getting a custom-made pants suit, has 16 bridesmaids, and (she had paid) $2000 … wanted her money back,” Ms Searle said.

“I had to tell her she can’t get her money back, the business is shut and it hasn’t been ordered.”

Bride-to-be Ally Pohl put a deposit on her “dream dress” from Bridal at Pulteney in November last year.

Because her dress had not been ordered, she will lose her $100 deposit.

She was devastated to learn she would not receive her “dream dress”.

“When I tried it on, I got that feeling … that it was the one,” Ms Pohl, 30, of Belair, said.

“Now it is back to square one.”
