By keeping their customers mouths drooling 24/7, it’s no surprise the award-winning Bakery on O’Connell has attracted a loyal following.

The beloved family bakery took out the top gong for Adelaide’s CBD in our latest Delicious local poll, with a whopping 55 per cent of the votes.

Owner, Tony Greven said it was fantastic to hear that all the team’s hard work had been rewarded.

“It’s nice to know that your customers really do appreciate what we do for them and we appreciate what they do for us,” he said.

Mr Greven who opened the bakery in 2003 said it’s the great team behind him that makes the bakery – which he owns with his wife, Jane – so successful.

“What's really special about the bakery is our team here … how passionate and committed they are and how hard they are work,” he said.

“We’re under the pump a lot and they handle the pressure.”

Mr Greven said while the bakery originally had standard operating hours, they couldn’t ignore their loyal customers requests to stay open later and eventually became 24/7.

The bakery’s mouth-watering cronuts have become a key attraction for customers, with two new flavours released every month.

“The hard part is to keep coming up with new ideas, luckily social media helps us out with suggestions and then we put our own twist on it,” Mr Greven said.

Mr Greven said the family style bakery, where he works alongside his wife, daughter, brother-in-law, nephew and niece, and has customers come from all over to try their delicious pastries.

“It’s really flattering to have that following that makes our bakery their destination when they’re coming up this way,” he said.
