TECH geeks and cosplay enthusiasts will be in for a treat this weekend as Hybrid World and AVCon take over the Adelaide Convention Centre.
Starting this Friday, both conventions will overlap with a mix of tech-inspired activities such as 3D printing and robotics, plus anime and gaming events.
Gouger St virtual reality arcade Untethered VR will be one of several businesses showcasing the future of technology at Hybrid World.
“We’re really looking forward to giving people a taste of what VR (virtual reality) is all about,” co-owner Tom Berzins says.
“It’s always such an amazing experience seeing VR blow people’s minds … the technology is amazing and continues to get better.”
Untethered VR allows gamers to immerse themselves in virtual worlds and galaxies with nothing but a headset and backpack.
“There’s one (game) that’s called The Plank with a height component and no matter who I put in there, I can guarantee they will freak out once the doors open and they discover how high they are” he says.
“Their hands get sweaty and knees tend to lock up and that feeling of presence is really cool.”
