A Norwood woman who was running a brothel illegally was caught by police after the brothel advertised their services on a social platform.
Ana Marie Riley, 49, faced the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday after her and her co-accused’s brothel was short lived after police uncovered their secret.
A police prosecutor told the court officers attended a property on Currie St, Adelaide on June 19, 2017.
“They had gathered various aspects of evidence that the property was being used as a brothel,” the police prosecutor said.
Riley’s mobile phone was seized.
“That included hundreds of text messages advertising on a social platform and various other messages directing respective clients to the subject premises for the purposes of prostitution,” the police prosecutor said.
Riley, who has no prior criminal history, and her co-accused had been running the brothel since June 1, 2017.
The court heard Riley’s co-accused was sentenced to a six-month good behaviour bond in February 2018, with no conviction recorded.
The police prosecutor said the same sentence for Riley would be suitable.
Riley, of Norwood, pleaded guilty in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday to keeping a brothel.
Michael Woods, for Riley, said he was happy with the prosecution’s offer and didn’t have anything further to add.
“I can see no reason to distinguish between you and the other person charged and so I won’t,” magistrate Paul Bennett said.
Mr Bennett sentenced Riley to a six-month good behaviour of $50.
No conviction was recorded.
